Caer Amon Detached House Logo

The 22 detached villas at Caer Amon set the style for one of our most ambitious developments in terms of its architectural vision, size and scope. This contemporary take on Scottish vernacular architecture, designed by Richard Murphy Architects  has won several national awards.

The houses are set in a series of intimate cul-de-sacs. To the front, they borrow from a Scots baronial style, with turreted stairwells complete with slit windows providing a very private elevation to the street. By contrast, at the rear, large patio doors allow light to flood into the public rooms, and the doors can be opened wide to extend the living space into the extensive walled gardens.

While the aesthetic may borrow from historical design details, its interpretation and implementation is strictly modern. The white walls echo the whitewashed cottages at Cramond harbour but are coated in a hardwearing Sto polymer-based render, which has excellent colour retention. Add in the powder-coated aluminium window frames and milled aluminium gutters and downpipes, and there is a significant reduction in the need for ongoing exterior maintenance. Interiors are light and spacious and benefit from zoned underfloor heating and excellent insulation, making the homes very energy efficient.
